Sinopsis de Operation Suicide: The Remarkable Story of the Cockleshell Raid
Robert Lyman's "Operation Suicide" is a well-written and deeply-researched recounting of the bold mission by Royal Marines under Blondie Hasler to attack ships in Nazi-occupied France.
The mission was daring. Hasler stands out as an enormously impressive man and leader: thorough, committed, and earning the loyalty of his men. The rest of the team, handpicked by Hasler, were impressive and brave young men. They trained hard and prepared thoroughly.
I was struck silent by the commitment of these men. This is not 60 SEALs landing in bin Laden's compound and facing no resistance--it's 10 men in canoes in December, paddling to strike a blow against Nazi Germany in a heavily protected seaport. The Nazis executed commandos. The team went in with no support, no air cover, no anything. Just ten men, two per canoe, paddling in the rough seas of December, canoeing at night and hiding by day. Astounding.
