Davide Longo's "The Last Man Standing" is not another run of the mill installment to the arguably over-saturated genre of post-apocalyptic fiction. This book is strange, frighteningly believable and nearly impossible to put down. Longo does an extraordinary job at telling the story of an underdog's fight with the human spirit. He paints a grotesque picture of an irrationally hopeful, broken down man's journey to redemption. This book can get as ugly as it is beautiful and gracefully. It is so lyrical it makes it hard to believe it's a translation. "The Last Man Standing" is a must read.
